Key tool critical to power outages A spate of power outages have been hitting the Ajeltake-to-Laura area because Marshalls Energy Companys four working engines cannot meet power demand at peak morning and evening periods. Two weeks ago, a high temperature alarm began going off on one of the two big engines in the new power plant every time the engine was revved up to its maximum power level. MALGov-MISSA possibly settle? After another half day of court proceedings in the MISSA-MALGov tax collection case last Friday, the matter adjourned for discussions of a possible settlement. Fridays hearing featured more testimony by Mayor Riley Albertter on local government budget and tax issues, and continuing caustic exchanges between opposing attorneys Rosalie Konou for the local government and David Strauss representing the Social Security administration, the courthouse version of oil and water. B2B: Together we can do it Ministry of Finances Customs and Revenue chief Bruce Bilimon wants to level the playing field for all businesses in Marshall Islands. And the way he wants to make it happen is through direct approaches with the head of each business to gain their cooperation. Consultation is the way to go, Bilimon told the Journal. I want each manager to personally understand the process. |

| By KAREN EARNSHAW in Beijing A small, but significant, group of Marshallese will in eight months time be standing in front of the Continental Airlines desk at the airport, each person double checking they have all the right documents as they prepare to fly to Beijing, the capital of the Peoples Republic of China to take part for the first time in the Summer Olympic Games. With just 260 days to go before RMI proudly marches into the main sports stadium, the secretary general of the National Olympic Committee Terry Sasser reports that the RMI group is still ironing out final details for the event. Mid-January is when everything will be solidified, Sasser told the Journal. At this point, we are currently in the selection process. There are several possibilities. |

| Litokwa Tomeing: Time for a change | ||||||||||||||
| Speaker Litokwa Tomeing poured fuel into the Aelon Kein Ad opposition partys engine this week when he publicly attacked the United Democratic Party and said its time for change. At an AKA-sponsored event at Marshall Islands Resort and also at a gathering at RREs Shoreline last Saturday, and in comments made for a video tape, Tomeing said bluntly: Our government needs to change. Our current leaders have lost their steam and they shouldnt be allowed to continue. Tomeing has been a key member of the UDP and Speaker since UDP came into office in 2000, though since early 2006 he began asserting his independence from the party by voting against the UDP and pushing initiatives not supported by the UDP-controlled Cabinet. We need to correct our course before its too late, he said. Taiwan is not helping the RMI with its needs, he said, adding the RMI needs to fix this problem by adopting a one China policy. Tomeing is the only unopposed candidate for Nitijela in this election and he is reportedly interested in the Presidency. | ||||||||||||||
