P14 Refurbished bumbum launched by Majuro boatbuilders
Boat building is nothing new to the islands, but builders rarely get much credit for the hard labor and production that goes into their job. Tim Mann’s boat building company is located near the old dock (Uliga), where once businessman Bula resided. Mann is building and repairing all makes and models of boats, from bumbums to catamarans. Last Thursday, he launched a 30-goot bumbum, beautifully repaired and painted. He bought the boat from the government and started his first project. The boat was bought by Gushi Brothers Co.

P1 Ponapeans to tax dogs
It was announced on the radio February 12, that if a dog is found in Kolnia without an official tag around its neck, the dog will be killed.
Regulation has been made in this town to tax all dogs, about 50 cents a dog a year.
If a dog is found not taxed, the penalty is dead for the dog. The reactions of people to the law?
One person said, “It is good because we Ponapeans eat dogs, so go ahead and kill them.”

P1 All in the family
“I was here the day the store opened!” beamed new General Manager Sam Smith from his sunny second story office in the Gibson’s building. Smith, who’s been with the company since August 1978, was working in Gibson’s store in Guam and came to Majuro “on loan” to help open a new store in November 1984. He did such a dynamite job that after he went back to Guam, the general manger here asked that Smith be transferred to Majuro.
P5 Rematch?
If your basketball fever wasn’t sated by the Social Services-sponsored championship series between the Hawks and the Jets, this may interest you. How about another showdown, Vincent Tani v Alber Alik, Willy Kilo v Rantly Kattil, Junior Matsumura v Rixey Wase? It all could happen at the third annual Continental Micronesia invitational basketball tournament that is coming up. But just to show you that Continental manager
Betwel Lekka plans ahead, the tournament won’t happen until May 11. That should give teams time to tune up their free throw shooting and organize their strategy. With an eight-team tourney, you never know who’s going to get the championship trophy. First year, it was the Jets. Last year, the Rebels took top honors. Stay tuned.
